How you livin’? Over here we’re living it up REGULAR STYLE, which in this day and age is a thing not to be taken without gratitude. (FYI we feel positively about that double negative.) We’re dipping into the 70's this week which means it’s time to "get out those crock pots and (c)ROCK, baby!" Gather ye punkins’ while ye may et cetera et cetera. We love writing these weekly newsies because it gives us a chance to reflect on what’s been going on and what’s comin’ down the pipeline and also a chance to be rEaL dUmB. Professionally, last week was a beaut’ and full of amazing shows including some livestreams which are still available to watch now! In our personal lives (since you asked), JAMie continues to get settled in his new digs, and is pretty much constantly critterin’ around, moving furniture across rooms, randomly attacking walls with a pox of different colors of paints, and making rash decisions that he either ends up loving or finding UNLIVABLE. (Looking at you, forest green and earth red kitchen 👀. Perhaps there is blame to be laid on the overly confident Task Rabbit painter who said it was "a perfect combo," but in hindsight she was likely turned on by the fact the paint was there and she could get paid for the rest of the day of work. But certainly, there is the constant blame to be laid within, for the short-term people pleasing that leaves long term personal displeasure.) In VANessa’s world, life’s stress is SKYROCKETING because her older child is a budding myrmecologist (ant scientist, obviously) and they’ve come into possession of their third colony. It’s a colony of honey pot ants, which are FAR more challenging to care for than the ants we’ve kept to date. Literally Van has lost two nights of sleep to ant dreams that take the form of escaping ants, too-moist ants, too-dry ants, and the classic Freudian "suffering Queen." These are not the nightmares that she was supposed to have. She has inherited this new stress and level of care from her son and this seems to be yet another cruel gift of motherhood. You will not only care for your children more than you thought possible, you will also care for their obsessions- even if the obsessions were something that years ago you were poisoning to get out of your house. Now the death of a single ant is RoCking her world. HOW IS THIS SUSTAINABLE?! Also, if you are or know an ant enthusiast, please let us know. It’s very niche and any company would be welcome.
Anywayyy, for every stressor of life, Dynasty offers a perfect Dystraction. So we’ll be at the theater this week, enjoying this fine, fine array of programming and assuming the house will paint itself and the ants will rebound. One could call it a “watched pot never boils approach.” Or an elves and the shoemaker style of project management. (Elves wanted.)
