Over here at Dynasty we are obsessed with ✨ 🦫 REALMS 🌲🌋.
Merriam Webster, a dictionary/underrated game purveryor* defines a realm like so:
1. kingdom sense 3
2. sphere, domain within the realm of possibility
3. a primary marine or terrestrial biogeographic division of the earth's surface.
We're not sure what "sense 3" means exactly (as it appears after kingdom above) but a google search for "sense 3" in the context of a dictionary led us to a Quora bot 🤖 that explained "Sense refers to specific interpretations or nuances of a word based on context." Never sure if we can take a bot, let alone a Quora bot 🤖, seriously, but it seems to make sense to us why kingdom would need this specification in this context. Not sure what the 3 means though. Like, is there a sense 1 or sense 2? Maybe we'll never know. Quora bot 🤖 can only tell us so much. Do you have a more reliable bot? Or do you just know? If so, tell us!

In any case, it's the second definition of realm: "sphere, domain within the realm of possibility," that really inspires us. We like the implication that it is possible to create any world you want! And every day, whether we realize it or not, we are creating our own realms! Both in our every day real life and possibly also in fictional ways too! Maybe even combining the two! Ideally they are enchanting places to dwell, at least most of the time, surrounded by uplifting and magical characters. For us it can feel like this at times for which we are very grateful! But even as we continue to evolve, we are so often called back into the realm of our own overthinking, surrounded by angry and judgey characters. Which is why, in part, Dynasty exists. To escape all that!
ANYHOO this newsletter scrawl was all born from the fact that Vanessa went to The Renaissance Pleasure Faire this weekend with her family and Jamie had a nice weekend, including a lovely evening at the Marc Maron show here on Saturday and was re-enchanted as always by the theater, and we had a fun conversation this morning where we were reminding ourselves that we love nothing more than creating magical realms and how that is of course what Dynasty is and we want everyone that comes here to feel like they've entered an entirely different world that they find inspiring and leave feeling full of possibility and how we want to continue to expand the realm and create many more, within Dynasty's walls and inside other walls and structures and even amongst trees and also on audio and video platforms. We love platforms.
The third definition of realms is pretty neat too. It has the word TERRESTRIAL which makes us think of E.T.. We're obsessed with realms like that fool was obsessed with phones! Can you even imagine if E.T. came to Earth in 2025? That fool would be like "E.T. iPhone Home!" 😂
Other similar sized venue newsletters wouldn't DARE make an E.T. joke in 2025. Over here we're not afraid to make TWO:

The CLASSIC SLAM is a competitive culmination of GET LIT’s award-winning curriculum that serves 50,000 students annually throughout SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. It is hands down one of the largest youth SPOKEN WORD events in the country, and one of our favorite events of the year — a celebration of fresh perspectives that demonstrate storytelling at the highest level.
Four teams will battle it out to claim the title as this year’s champion.

NICO CARNEY is a Brooklyn based standup comedian, actor and writer. His standup covers his experiences as a trans man, growing up in Savannah, Georgia, and whatever else he finds silly and interesting. Nico co-hosts a monthly show at Club Cumming called BOYS CLUB, which was a 2022 NYCF headlining show and is now a popular podcast of the same name. NICO performs at clubs and theaters all over NYC and the country, and was part of the NETFLIX INTRODUCING… showcase at the 2022 NETFLIX IS A JOKE FESTIVAL.
NICO has also been featured on COMEDY CENTRAL’s THE GAG, and is developing the half-hour comedy BOYS CLUB with SCOTT KING and IMAGINE ENTERTAINMENT. NICO was recently a 2023 JUST FOR LAUGHS NEW FACE in the stand-up category and made his television debut on LATE NIGHT WITH SETH MEYERS. NICO returned to NETFLIX IS A JOKE this year to exclusively premiere his new hour WELCOME TO THE NICOVERSE and headlined MOONTOWER COMEDY FESTIVAL in AUSTIN this APRIL.
On the acting side, NICO recently wrapped his first feature gig as the lead of SIOBHAN MCCARTHY’s indie trans buddy comedy SHE’S THE HE, and was named to the 2024 VULTURE COMICS TO WATCH list.

When most people think of the MUPPETS, they think of the colorful characters made out of fleece and foam. But as with every movie, it all starts on the written page. Before returning to the big screen, the MUPPETS returned to the writers' room. MUPPETS head writer JERRY JUHL was joined this time by TOM PRATCHETT, JACK ROSE, and JAY TARSES to take the gang overseas to jolly old England, in JIM HENSON'S directorial debut. With music by JOE RAPOSO, THE GREAT MUPPET CAPER is a true delight!
THE MUPPET SCRIPT returns to bring you THE SCRIPTED MUPPET CAPER! Some returning favorites, some new faces, and the same old jokes from the MUPPETS. This live reading takes place on MONDAY, MAY 5TH @ 7:30PM at the DYNASTY TYPEWRITER in LOS ANGELES, and will also be LIVE STREAMED WORLDWIDE!

Founded in 2009, THE TRANSLATIN@ COALITION (TLC) emerged as a grassroots movement led by a group of TRANSGENDER, GENDER EXPANSIVE, AND INTERSEX (TGI) immigrant women in LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA. Recognizing the urgent and unique needs of TGI LATIN@ immigrants in the UNITED STATES, these trailblazers came together to create a space for advocacy, empowerment, and direct support.
