Darlings!
EXTRY EXTRY! THIS JUST IN!!!!! Corn-Fed Owners of Quaint Venue SHOCK WORLD by Joining Gynmasium! (Surely this is the content you came for!?) We figured, if we want to take this li’l Hollywood-ish theater to the next level, it’ll take some #rippedbods. So we got gym memberships with stars in our eyes, short-shorts in our gym bags, and aspirational bathing suits in our online carts! Cut to: The next day. JAMIE awkwardly jumps off the stage to impress the audience. It looks SO cool until he lands on his foot funny and is now out of commission for a week. Cut to, the NEXT day: Vanessa bends at waist to put large-scale baby down. It looks SO maternal until she slips a disc (skeletal, not frisbee!) and will be out of commission for even longer. They may or may not be writing this newsletter in a reclined position while riding a magic carpet woven by a prescription narcotic. Where will THIS journey take us, sweet darlings? Re: Magic carpets, can someone tell me why they remade Aladdin? Such a true and deep disappointment. Will Smith has many merits but should never be held up comedically in such close proximity to Robin Williams... it’s just not a good look. Will DOES look great by Jada though, superficially speaking. Their height difference is… exhilarating. But, make no mistake, though Jada be but little she is powerful! She’s making BIZZNASSS calls from her booster seat at the table (inside joke for all Table Talk fans!!!!) honey! (Jamie here. FYI all that Aladdin talk was Vanessa. I don’t really have a horse in that race. Never saw the original (Vanessa here: THIS IS WHY YOU DON’T HAVE A HORSE IN THE RACE! IF YOU DIDN’T SEE THE ORIGINAL, THE RANT WASN’T FOR YOU! Keep your horses in their own paddock. That you even dare to weigh in is frankly insulting and an example of white male entitlement at it’s finest. But please, GOOOO ONNNNNN) and what I saw of the remake was like, not mindblowing but if you paid for a fun genie movie with Will Smith, it delivered. Ok, Just saw that I was rudely parenthe-rupted - ok, I don’t have a horse in the race. BUT I HAVE A HORSE. IT’S JUST NOT IN RACING SHAPE RIGHT NOW. IT’S WHY I JOINED THE GYM. (Vanessa here: Jamie this was never about your shape. Your shape is perfect. And you know what? You’re right. If you paid for a genie movie with WIll Smith it DID deliver. What I’m lamenting is a needless remake of a movie that centered around a role performed by a man I really loved and respected, a master comic and improvisor. I think a more inclusive and properly cast Aladdin is a great concept as a pitch, but watching the resulting product left me feeling really… down. No one wins in this. I’m sorry I started it, and I’d be honored to finish it.) Jamie, still here, I do have body issues, but I appreciate the reminder that all of our bodies are inherently perfect. What I lack in build, I make up for in passion. In a way, to keep in the Aladdin theme, we’re all like genies, and every choice we make is a wish, and when we are born we get a lifetime of wishes, not just three. And there are three sides to a triangle, and our logo is a triangle, so this whole thing organically came full… circle. Can I have some of your Narcode now? (Vanessa passes bottle of Super Strength ACME Narcode to Jamie.) We’ll let’s just end with agreement: The Jada/Will height difference is indeed… exhilarating.
The last week at the theater? In a word: QUIRKALICIOUS! Yes, it was a wild week of varied programing. Seriously folks, where else can you see a Crossword show, a stand-up show, a music show from a beloved artist who a lot of people don’t even know does music, a very cool and experimental improvised music show by a group of impossibly cool people guaranteed to make you hipper by proximity (looking at you, Subtle Pride), a popular culture quiz show, a Brad Pitt clip marathon, a love letter to LA, an immersive tour through a crazy record collection, a special taping, AND a conversation between THE impeachment guy and THE Rob Reiner. Why, wouldn’t you think you’d have to go to upwards of 8 venues to see all those different shows? And spend upwards of 5 THOUSAND US Dollars? Nope! Just the one; your neighborhood Popcorn Restaurant. And THAT’S the Dynasty Difference™. We’re not a venue, we’re a PORTAL. Venues take you one place… portals open up possibilities. Portalbilities.
This week, the portal throbs on. TONIGHT MARK NORMAND is in the house and has sold out BOTH of his shows. Way to go, Mark! WEDNESDAY we welcome back our pals from WorkJuice! When it comes to pals, we hate to name names, but here we gooooo: CRAIG CACKOWSKI, MARC EVAN JACKSON, HAL LUBLIN, ANNIE SAVAGE, PAUL F TOMPKINS, MARC GAGLIARDI and LI’L JANET VARNEY. With special guest: SHANNON WOODWARD! Come and be wooed by some of the best improvisors in the game… the big game. The game of LIFE. THURSDAY we welcome JOE MACHI for his hour. Joe’s got a great track record, a great voice, and deserves to have a great track suit. Not sure if he does, but Joe, if you’re reading this, treat yourself to some quality athleisurewear! You’re WORTH it.
FRIDAY it’s the one threesome where EVERYONE’s invited, Everything’s Great! Your hosts with the most; DEMI ADEJUYIGBE, ADDIE WEYRICH, and NICK KOCHER! You don’t need more reasons to come to this show, but too bad! They’re serving you one helluva lineup: ROBBY HOFFMAN! CHRIS FLEMMING! DAVID GBORIE! NITHYA RAMAN + HAYES DAVENPORT. Come see this show! Afterwards at 10pm it’s Wild, Wild Christian- SIMONE MCALONEN’s story of awkward teenage sexual awakening set at Christian summer camp… which happened to be built on the 60,000 acre ranch in Central Oregon formerly home to the murderous sex cult from Wild, Wild Country. Really!
SATURDAY we LEAP into February (this February is leap year style February! So athletic! ) with a Dynasty Tonight! Could there be a better leap and landing place? We think not. So land on this 8pm show with a hand picked lineup! This week is featuring: IAN HARVIE, BILLY WAYNE DAVIS and wayyyyy more, baby! Grab your tickets and #experiencebliss™ (we pitched that to Lindt but they passed in the form of ignoring us, so we’re keeping it for ourselves. That’s OUR #Lindtstory!) MONDAY we have the distinct honor of hosting The Smartest Man In The World podcast (Proopcast) with none other than the VERY humble GREG PROOPS. Come! Laugh! Learn! Mingle with some of the sexiest folks the UNIVERSE has to offer.
Maybe next week we’ll be less injured and more ripped (which SOUNDS like an injury but implies a strengthening),
Jamie + Vanessa

Dynasty is built on our dream to change the world, and we are grateful and humbled to begin that journey here in Los Angeles, a city full of dreamers/ makers/ achievers/ and inspirations. Kobe’s big dreams, tireless work ethic, will to succeed (and underrated sense of humor) will inspire us now more than ever. Human life is absurd, fleeting, and as significant as the energy and intent we pour into it. Grateful for humans who refuse to be limited and encourage others to break through self-doubt and excuses and empower them to be their most undeniable, unlimited selves. RIP Kobe, Gianna, John, Keri, Alyssa, Christina, Sarah, Payton, Ara, and love to all those affected by this tragedy. #8 #24
