Sweet darlings,
You know that saying, “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life?” Great saying, albeit one we’ve found to be like, categorically untrue. In our current experience it's more like do what you love until you inevitably have to shatter your ego and weep in order to thrive, and then rinse and repeat! ANYWAY! Here we are! New month, new resolve, same rock-hard physiques. We had so much fun on Saturday at our Halloween bash, and soon we’ll share photos and magical things with you, but main takeaways are: people wore really great costumes, the band played really great music, our staff (regardless of what their actual costumes were) embodied the vibe of the Energizer Bunny (is this such a dated reference? or is it still part of the cultural Zeitgeist? Flarp it, it’s part of OUR zeitgeist. All hail EB! Note to selves: must create Dynasty equivalent of this rabbit to avoid any future legal issues with Big Battery) and we had a seance and for real creepy things happened, and then an energy clearing happened, and then a conga line happened and we went to bed early in the morning! And two days later we’re still recovering! So clearly, we’re too old for this shit. Age ain’t nothin’ but a number (and also a physical reality).
AND NOW, we’re in NOVEMBER! This month is the GOAT of our calendar year, and it’s NOT just because both our birthdays are in it (DOUBLE SCORPIO), but that certainly does not hurt. Speaking of things that don’t hurt, shows! Come see some.

MONDAY Nov 7th at 7:30 PM LAKE BELL in convo with TIG NOTARO and JUNE DIANE RAPHAEL! We’re so excited for this INSIDE VOICE audiobook release event. Lake has gone deep into our most outward-facing and least-appreciated trait: our voice. When you hear the iconic voices of Drew Barrymore, Susie Essman, Tracey Ullman, Jeff Goldblum, or Pam Grier (all contributors to the book), you know right away who they are. Interviews with these legends as well as poets, doctors, linguists, voice coaches and conversations with pedestrians on the street get to the heart of why the way we sound matters so much.
TUESDAY Nov 8th at 7:30 PM: IT’S A PHASE. One night only, one man show by writer/performer DAVID MANDELL and directed by JACK TYNAN. We all go through certain “phases” in our life. Parents call it sexual exploration, friends call it a whore phase, and your conservative aunt calls it sin. Regardless of what you may call it, or your sexual orientation, or where you live, almost all of us (except for you high school sweethearts…lucky fuckers) go through something like this at various parts in our lives. Yes, this show deals with trauma, shame and HIV but if the above isn’t clear this is not an AIDS trauma story; this is the unapologetic and empowering portrayal of a man’s sexual reawakening following a traumatic experience and how all of us use various “masks” in order to shield our true selves from everyone around us.
say hey to the missus,
