Hello there Darrrrlings!

Happy Tuesday masquerading as Monday! Speaking of Mondays, can you BELIEVE the Garfield film (née, The Garfield Movie) is out performing Furiosa?! We’re absolutely furious-a about it! But, we’ll get over it. And you know what? Chris Pratt NEEDED a win. We’re all about struggling artists. Here ends our “pop culture commentary segment.” Hope you loved it. We had a lovely long weekend just packed n’ pumpin’ with shows, including a Dynasty Tonight! which kept true to our trajectory of getting stranger and stranger. We debuted a new game, OPTICAL DELUSIONS in which unbelievably lucky audience members won FREE sunglasses and readers from our *world famous* lost and found. (Giving is the greatest gift of all 🥹) We’ve got another delightful Dynasty Tonight! this Saturday, you should totally come! Crazy lineup (Lizzy Cooperman, Sandy Honig, Jena Friedman, Arden Myrin! It’s always ladies’ night at Dynasty! ) join us and we can promise to provide: LIVE MUSIC. LAUGHTER. POPCORN. MAJOR PERSONAL BREAKTHROUGHS. AND GIVEAWAYS of something we buy OR find.

Ok, we’re about to get into the week, but first a little *world famous* #SockTalk 🧦. The people writing this letter are not elder millennials/Xennials. We are very very young. Honestly we were born so recently it’s SHOCKING and IMPRESSIVE we can even type. But, it’s come to our attention that Generation Z is coming for the socks of their elders. This weekend we learned that the classic ankle sock is now... eschewed. We urge everyone everywhere to be kind about sock choices, socks are PERSONAL. We said nothing when they came for the skinny jeans. We understood when they made fun of the camera-lag older people do when they make a video. But if we don’t speak out on this, IT WOULDN’T BE RIGHT. We understand every generation needs to stake a claim and carve a path, but… socks? Sure, the whole “Ok, Boomer” thing wasn’t/isn’t kind either, but many boomers (#notallboomers) were emotionally unavailable and worse to the younger generation, bought houses for what we pay for a month’s rent, and had the beauty of a college education actually getting them a job. This is something to complain about! (Not that it’s their fault. Everyone/many people are doing their best.) But we beg of you, leave people’s socks alone. Also, if you know cool socks that could replace ankle socks (no reason) please let us know. Addendum! One of us recently joined a gym (to maximize our youth) and just this morning we spotted a person wearing ankle socks that looked like they were in the know! So maybe it's not a thing at all? We're definitely not losing sleep over this! Anyhoo!

Hey there you sweet, sweet Darlings!

How you been holdin’ up on these mean streets? We’ve been blessed with just a flarpin’ PLETHORA of PALATABLE PROGRAMMING, and we admit… WE LOVE IT. This weekend was especially delightful, with a three show Saturday that included a trivia game show debut (with timewarps! Warp your own time, and watch any time this week!) , a jazzy music + stand up show all the way from a state called New York (!), and a livestreamed unhinged drag show (don’t miss the madness! Available all week and worth the price just to see Meat Skeleton’s 🥵 Mary Todd Lincoln.) Don’t know about yer boxes, but that day checks a helluva lot of ours.

Sunday brought us an epic livestream of the “Naboo Movie” and our stage was graced by an epic cast including Tony Hale, Lorraine Newman, Haley Joel Osment, and Bobby Moynihan. Bobby’s Darth Maul is maybe the best thing to ever happen to the franchise? Everyone brought their A+++ game, and it was one of our favorite livestreams EVER. Miss the fun? It’s not too late! You can still get and watch the stream this week!

Speaking of magical realms and far away galaxies, this weekend VanJam went to the distant world of Ye Olde Irwindale and The ORIGINAL Renaissance Pleasure Faire. And we were PLEASED. We did NOT go in costume, but by god let this be the last year for that regret! Next year we’re goin and we’re doinnnn’ it up! And by “it” we mean smashing our breasts as high as possible. Yes, both of us. DARE YE JUDGE!? Alsoooo, every year we go to the Ren Faire we come back thinking we need to do a Ren Night at Dynasty. Not sure what it would be yet, but it would likely involve harpsichords and mead and a risqué maypole situation. Would this be something you’d be interested in? Or is this just exciting to us? Full-on dress up Ren Nights? If this sounds like something that would delight you, prithee tell us here!

Oh here's a thing! On Friday night we're doing a first edition of DYNASTY'S WORLD FAMOUS $5 MOVIE NIGHT! It's the historic and famous night we just invented where you come to Dynasty and we take a bunch of movie suggestions than decide as a group which one to watch and then we watch it! And since it's Dynasty we'll figure out a couple weird flourishes to make it more enchanting/interesting. And since it's famously only $5, everyone is a winner! Bring some friends for some low pressure fun! And what the hell, dress up Ren Faire style or Naboo style or in any costume you want. We celebrate you. And THAT'S THE DYNASTY DIFFERENCE!™

Ayyyyye Darlings!

How you livin’? Over here we just came off of the mostly fun chaos of the Netflix is a Joke Festival! 10 days, and roughly a gazillion shows. Hats off to our entire team for griiiiindin’ and smilin’ and making it happen, and hats off to ALL the talent who have been boppin’ around all the many many venues in LA, showin’ their stuff. It was another reminder, in a sea of reminders, how lucky we are to be surrounded by so many artists who work so hard to bring us joy, and make us think, and also help us to get real stupid. Now that the fest is over, it’s back to our regularly scheduled fest of programming! Because... “It’s always fest-season at Dynasty!” - Siskel, 1972. “I just come for the corn. I flarpin’ HATE Siskel right now. We have our ups and downs. We have our problems. But ultimately? We have chemistry. I know how invaluable that is but that doesn’t mean it always feels good. Hello Darlings!

Hope you had an absoflarpinlutley VERDANT Beltane, a saber-iffic May the 4th and an excelente Cinco De Mayo. It is now the 6th of May, and we can chill with the vibey-day by day celebrations and settle into some overall good vibrations. Reminder! Mother’s Day is next weekend! **NEED THE PERFECT MOTHER'S DAY GIFT??** We think you should order that special woman in your life a shit kit . Because you know she’s put up with some in her day. Or bring her to a show at Dynasty! Give us a heads up that you're bringing your mom to a show in May and we'll sweeten your experience!

Speaking of sweet experiences, we’re in the midst of the Netflix Is A Joke festival (as is much of the city, in case you haven’t noticed) and we’re up to our armpits in shows n’ their trappings. Come and get trapped in the good stuff!

Netflix practically BEGGED US to host our very own Dynasty Tonight! as part of the festival! We were like "ok fine!" and so that will be TOMORROW, Tuesday May 7th, at 7pm. The line-up is bonkers: MISSI PYLE, CHRIS FLEMING, JOEL KIM BOOSTER, LIZA TREYGER, our band the Dy-Nasties! AND POSSIBLY A VERY SPECIAL GUEST! 7:00PM: Netflix Is A Joke Presents: DYLAN ADLER Dylan Akira Adler is a stand up comedian, actor, writer and musician based in LA. Dylan was a writer on THE LATE LATE SHOW W/ JAMES CORDEN, where he also made his late night stand up debut. Previously he wrote and starred in STAPLEVIEW for producer Sam Grey. Additionally, he’s headlined at the New York Comedy Festival (2021 Comic To Watch), the Asian Comedy Festival, the Toronto Sketch Fest and was featured in the New York Times for his show “Rape Victims are Horny Too”, which will be featured in the 2022 YES AND LAUGHTER LAB. Dylan has performed at clubs including Littlefield, The Bell House, Union Hall, Joe’s Pub, and his work has been featured on THE GAG for Comedy Central and Hulu. Dylan was named as part of VULTURES 2022 COMICS YOU SHOULD AND WILL KNOW list and was featured in the current season of COMEDY CENTRAL PRESENTS. Dylan can currently be seen in the national Walmart campaign ADD TO HEART, co-written by Sharon Horgan.

Tina Friml is a standup comedian who uses animated optimism to talk about living with cerebral palsy. Her sharp jokes and fearless honesty about the social assumptions that come with living with a disability has earned Tina a dedicated social media following with over 225K followers on Instagram and over 140K on Tiktok. She made her late night debut on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. She can also be seen on the Comedy Central series Featuring and was a 2019 New Face in the acclaimed Just For Laughs Festival. She performs all over the country to sold out audiences and fans.

Writer/comedian/actor Joe Mande was most recently a Co-EP on the critically-acclaimed HBO Max show Hacks. He also wrote for all four seasons of THE GOOD PLACE on NBC. Other writing credits include three seasons on PARKS AND RECREATION as well as MASTER OF NONE on Netflix, FOREVER on Amazon, and KROLL SHOW on Comedy Central. He also recurs on HACKS, and has appeared on shows like PARKS AND REC, KROLL SHOW, and MODERN FAMILY. He has been the featured comedian twice on CONAN, as well as LATE NIGHT WITH SETH MEYERS and numerous Comedy Central programs. Joe’s first comedy album, “Bitchface,” was released by Greedhead Records and is available online. His one hour special, JOE MANDE’S AWARD-WINNING COMEDY SPECIAL can be seen on Netflix.

Her debut album dropped in June and hit number 1 in the iTunes charts, “I’ll do it myself”. Her full length special from the same name was released at the end of 2023 on youtube hitting over 300k in the first two months. She tours all over the US and Ireland. She is the host of The Shift podcast and has been featured on Sirius XM.

Boyle is a weekly regular at New York Comedy Club. She’s been featured in the Hollywood Reporter, Irish Independent and The Irish Times. She has been selected for NY’s Funniest showcase in 2022 NY Comedy Festival, Laughing Skull and many more great festivals. She is currently touring her new hour; Terapy.

Photo Recap: Let’s Not Die! A Yellow Dot Fundraiser

Dynasty Typewriter was proud to present an evening with Adam McKay’s Yellow Dot Studios as they combated the greatest existential threat facing humanity. Hilarious stuff! Let’s Not Die! (both the show name and a plea to fossil fuel CEOs) featured stand-up comedy, music, sketches, videos, and an interview with a real-life climate scientist. It was a hilarious – and enraging – fundraiser for Yellow Dot Studios, a non-profit media studio calling out polluters and mobilizing action on the climate emergency.

The evening featured special guests Nick Kroll, Aparna Nancherla, Sean O’Connor, Nikki Glaser, Esteban Gast, a special appearance by Adam McKay, and surprise drop-in John Mulaney.

Hi there, beautiful darlings!

April is on her way out and MAY is moving on innnn! Let’s hope allll those showers from last month pay off with some major flowers, both metaphorical and real, this month! Safe to say we’re all ready for a spiritual flarpin’ super bloom ! We had a great weekend here at the theater, with a killer Dynasty Tonight! featuring amazing performers and amazing audience members. At the top of the shows, we always use music and our bodies to kick out some woes in the room, and this week’s complaints were substantial: a very bad date involving Von’s sushi, getting laid off, and having a commencement cancelled. We got to work some 🪄 Dynasty Magyck 🪄 and give one human some high quality food to enjoy on her own terms, one human a job offer, and one human a whole flarpin’ improvised graduation on stage! It was one of those the “gift is in the giving” moments, because we (VanJam) are still riding high! And still very impressed with the graduation cap GM Missy flawlessly created between acts. Now, we encourage YOU to give yourself some gifts of enchantertainment™! Our calendar is slipping into its sweatpants, because there’s a little more to love during the Netflix Is A Joke Fest!

7:00PM: Netflix is a Joke Presents: ELIOT GLAZER: Good Singer, Bad Gay. Comedian (and opera school dropout) Eliot Glazer takes a musical journey of self-discovery through offbeat, irreverent mashups and medleys in an attempt to figure out why, try as he might, he consistently fails at “being gay.”

🖤 9:45PM: Netflix Is A Joke Presents: The Black Version. The Black Version is a completely improvised show that started at the Groundings Theatre in Los Angeles in 2010 to sold out crowds and great reviews. Rolling Stone magazine calls the show “Hot” and the cast a “Comedic A-Team”. LA Weekly says the show is “Red Hot” and “Scores more than its share of belly laughs” while the LA Times calls the show “A Winner”. The all African American cast of regulars includes show creator Jordan Black along with other comedy veterans Cedric Yarbrough, Gary Anthony Williams, Daniele Gaither, Phil Lamar, and Nyima Funk all under the direction of Karen Maruyama. 🛥️ 🧊 4/16, TONIGHT! TUESDAY, 7:30PM: MICHAEL KINNAN in Never Let Go! NEVER LET GO is a “feat of ingenuity” (NY Times). This uproariously queer one-man show takes you back to the Ship of Dreams. It distills the three-plus hour epic and packs into one hour a surprisingly subversive punch. Kinnan, who grew up worshiping the movie and its iconic cast of characters, plays all of them with “perfectly executed comedy, pathos and homage” (ScotsGay Arts). As told by Rose, the play takes you on an intimate journey into the fateful romance that is shadowed by one of the most devastating man-made disasters of modern history – the sinking of the Titanic. NEVER LET GO is “a truly unique and absorbing high camp theatrical piece” (Culture Fix).

Come hear classics like “The Clown Wig Story,” “Peckers Chicken,” and “Katzenberg” along with the time Brent was dumped by the Endeavor agency while pretending to be an Englishman named Alex Norton.

🟩 7:30PM: WILL MILES Presents… Green Things! Part solo show, part experiment, Green Things is a glimpse into the world that is Will Miles’ mind.
