Back on our connective bullshit: Would you believe us if we were to tell you we are writing this from a subway train on the coast of Japan? I hope you would because we are! We are at the tail (wagging the dog) end of the most amazing trip to Japan, a first for both Van and Jam. We are here (obviously) because ol’ Jam was asked to be a judge for a Japanese reality competition comedy show pilot! At first, we thought it was a scam and then we thought it was actually the most delightful excuse/reason/opportunity to go on a flarpin’ adventure. This is the most beautiful country either of us has ever been to, with the most wonderful kind and respectful human beings. America’s great and all (We’ve got hands down the funniest home videos!) but… Japan is better? We went all around Tokyo for two days, then off to the beautiful seaside town of Kamakura, and now we are en route to Hakone for some good ol’ fashioned hot springs and spiritual awakenings. We’ve had many many moments of magic and inspiration already, and the takeaways/re-piphanies include: the moment is Now, life is a gift, human connection is everything, authentic expression is necessary, this planet that we treat like a trash can is NOT a trash can, and it is a gift to host and be hosted, to experience and create experiences. Also eating is like… really fun. And we are excited as always to infuse Dynasty with all the things we learn on our travels.

But we do miss the beautiful theater and all the beautiful souls who are humaning-the fort. Thank you to Missy, Dax, Langston, Sam, the other Sam, and the whole crew for upholding the magical realm there as we explore magical realms elsewhere!

Well, we met "Weird Al" at the theater last night for a Good Deed Corps screening of Weird so you know how we’re doing. WALKING ON AIIIIIR! And howwwwney, the view from the top is nice. Why, you can practically see all of Spatula City from here. Seriously though, it's arguable that this place wouldn't exist without his musical and comedic influence to us as kids (and as adults), so it was beyond exciting and he's as nice as you've probably heard!

Hey sweet Darlings,

Our hearts and prayers are with you, hoping no one got you toooo badly on the day of wickedness and dark magic that is April Fools day. We survived mostly unscathed, as we have a very strict NO TRICKS policy around the theater, but we know not everyone can be so lucky. Just the tangential fooling energy effected us, so we can’t imagine how it would be to live with a person who puts soap on your toothbrush and cling wrap on a toilet. April Fools day: It’s NOT ok.

On April Fools Eve (whilst the Devil was preparing his tote of trickery) we had the ABSOLUTE PLEASURE of watching JENNY SLATE put on one of our favorite shows ever. Humanity, absurdity, warmth, sensitivity, and also some really gross yucky stuff. A perfect cocktail. Unfortunately she had to cancel last night’s show, but we’re hard at work trying to reschedule it. If you have an opportunity to see her anywhere, take it. Saturday’s Dynasty Tonight! was yet another dreamy one, the band keeps getting better and better (we’ve added some horns! Game changer!) and VanJam made a pact to work on some choreography before the next show. So in a month we’ll be professional dancers just fyi. Capezio outlet store, watch out! We need some sheer dance skirts and lyrical shoes STAT. Maybe we’ll become professional dancers and have to move to New York City because that’s where the REAL dance scene is. We’ll keep you posted on that, but in the meantime let our challenge encourage yourself to learn something new! You’re never too old to embarrass and delight yourself. I mean, we’re never too old because we’re actually very, very young (so we’re just sort of using that as a general phrase) but it applies to most people directly.

A week ago we celebrated our Quinquennial and here is the quintessential proof of her glory. It was one of our favorite and most joyous nights at the theater ever, with an audience of darlings fueling the sweet fire of the talents on stage. Thank you to a truly spectacular lineup, our wonderful Dynasty Team, our epic 12 piece band, the fine bakers at Costco, and of course every flarpin’ person who has found any happiness in this place. Hiiii Darlings,

We had such a great weekend. OMGorsh. We celebrated our QUINQUENNIAL (5 Year Anniversary!) with a Quelebration for the ages. PATTON OSWALT! 12 piece band! HANNAH EINBINDER! 2 BRENTS! (FORRESTER AND WEINBACH) and a stellar STELLING (Beautiful BETH!) VanJam kicked off the show with a… KEYNOTE! That could go either way (and we’ve seen both sides now…) but Saturday it went GREAT. So much support and positivity, so much magic and goodness. It was one of our favorite nights ever, and the fine hardworking bakers at Costco OUTDID THEMSELVES on our 2 stunning sheet cakes. Family, friends, and surprise sweeties came out of the woodworks and it was so special. Balloons galore. Quinquennial shirts galore. Goodness galore. 5 years down, 64 to go! Didn’t get to come to the party and support/celebrate? Order a quinquennial shirt TO PROVE YOUR ALLEGIANCE and/or have a cool shirt!

Now we move on into the future, with renewed optimism and gratitude. And it’s easy to be optimistic and grateful when we’re lookin’ at…

Who’s still weeeeeeping form Everything Everywhere All At Once’s genuine spirit of humility, absurdity, kindness and play?! We are! We had a very fun night at Dynasty watching the Oscars on the big screen with a whole bunch of our dolled-up darlings! DAVE HOLMES (our hero, our love) was the host with the most, and several of our audience gave awards acceptance speeches throughout the night, and we ate a lot of pizza and popcorn because we’re nothing if we’re not predictable. And now, here we are looking to finish off March with chutzpah and pizazz because baby, we’re FIVE’N THRIVIN’. (We’re celebrating our Quinquennial this month!)

Oh also just FYI, OZZY OSBOURNE came to the theater to watch his amazing daughter KELLY in this month's The Last Improv Show. And last week GENE SIMMONS was in the audience. So, politely exqueeze us as we dump the HOT, electric anthemic cream out of our ripped up arena sized leather pants. Life is rock. Rock is life. (For the record, SHARON was also in attendance and was genuinely soooo nice. And Gene Simmons inquired if we sold hot dogs. We do not.)

WEDNESDAY at 7:30PM Steady Holiday Album Release Show! Steady Holiday is the solo vehicle for Los Angeles singer-songwriter DRE BABINSKI’s deeply personal and cinematic storytelling. As seen on SHOWTIME, ZACH TEAGUE and DREW LAUSCH are thrilled to be making their LA debut with this hour long musical comedy about mothers, fathers, friendship, and poppers. “Baby Gay” follows Zach & Drew as they experiment with mystery drugs in Brooklyn, grapple with their less than perfect childhoods, and prove to the audience that even Satan can’t tear this friendship apart.

2:00PM: The Shorts Show: Pile Edition a presentation of 7 awesome short films, all made by mothers. The films are about motherhood, friendship, jazz, sex, loneliness, and wolves. All of these films have had robust festival runs, and all of the filmmakers will be there. There will be a Q and A afterwards. It’s gonna be such a fun afternoon!!!! Balloon artist ADDI SOMEKH and photographer CHARLIE ECKERT traveled to 35 countries, spontaneously making balloon crowns for people and documenting their reactions in a kind of rolling investigation into the nature of joy and laughter. They will share their photos and stories, while twisting balloons live for the audience. Bonus! – Addi plays a bass made entirely of balloons, and his band, Unpopable, will perform with special guest Reggie Watts.
