On August 10th, 2024, The Great Kamino Kaper: A Staged Reading of Attack of the Clones was presented at Dynasty Typewriter by The George Lucas Talk Show & Star Wars Minute Podcast. The live staged reading featured an all-star cast, including Eric Bauza, Vivien Lyra Blair, Jeremy Carter, Matt Gourley, Seth Green, JoJo Ginn, Jess McKenna, Haley Joel Osment, Mark McConville, Jess McKenna, Vic Michaelis, Bobby Moynihan, Laraine Newman, Daniel Logan, Hal Lublin, Nina West, Corin Wells, and Debra Wilson, bringing Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones to life. With live musical accompaniment by Chrysanthe Tan and hosting by Patrick Cotnoir, Pete the Retailer, and Alex Robinson, the show was strong with the Force from beginning to end.

Dream about the pencil case you wish you had when you were younger. (This is Van typing, in elementary school my friend had an epic tricked out pencil case with all sorts of buttons and compartments that I coveted. To that pencil case I say, Thank you Teacher. You taught me I yearn for whimsy and organization. My pencil case was a small plastic box. Because I am evolved, I forgive my parents for this injustice. Photo Recap: Nepo Daddy

On July 21st Dynasty Typewriter hosted NEPO DADDY, a staged live comedy pilot reading, hilariously explored the question: how do you make yourself a nepo baby? Chloe (Tawny Newsome), a struggling NYC actor, fumbled a half-hearted suicide attempt and discovered new opportunities when her blue-collar father Geoff (Matt Walsh) got a job at 30 Rock as a security guard. The event starred Tawny Newsome (STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS, SPACE FORCE) and Matt Walsh (MANHUNT, VEEP), with comedy from Jenny Yang (THE BROTHERS SUN, BUSY TONIGHT), and featured a talented cast including Niles Abston (DAVE), Rachel Pegram (KILLING IT), Alyssa Sabo (GASLIT), Ellory Smith (3x Emmy-nominated writer), and Vinny Thomas (PLATONIC). Hosted by Molly Lambert (Heidiworld, EVERYBODY’S IN LA), it was a night filled with laughs and no real nepo babies, because they all said no. Thanks to writer Nina Rogers, director Ursula Ellis, and producer Devon Albert-Stone for making it an unforgettable showbiz fantasy come to life.

See our full calendar here →  Darlings- As we head into the final days of July (what?!), we wanted to remind anyone reading this email that, hey, YOU ARE NOT IN TROUBLE! This is a sentiment we try to remind ourselves of often while running this theater, as we both have this go-to nagging sense that we're a) neglecting important tasks and/or b) letting any number of people down at any/every given moment. And it harkens back to this feeling from childhood of a parent or sibling or teacher or angry neighbor or bully or arcade attendant or sensei or customer service representative yelling at us and literally saying "Ooooh you're in trooouuuuble!" But we're adults now, kinda! And yeah, sure it's possible that a bill didn't get paid on time, or someone actually is disappointed with us for not responding to an email or call or direct message within a few months [years]. But being a human can sometimes be really hard! So we gotta have each others backs and believe we're doing the best we can under any given circumstances and that even if it's not up to a standard we like to have for ourselves, that's ok, and trust that things are playing out exactly as they need to be and it's very rarely personal. Does this motivational approach to the week resonate? Email us to commune, or tell us what you think you're in trouble for and we'll [most likely] absolve you! (But please, if possible, try not to implicate us in any crimes. #healthyboundaries) Are you someone we know intimately that actually thinks we ARE in trouble? In other news, a special shout out to everyone who's attended a Dynasty Tonight! show so far this year! It's one of our most fun things to do at the theater and we've had such a ball hosting and playing with our wonderful band The Dynasties and bringing up our favorite comedians and artists and giving away stuff and getting to more intimately know our wonderful audience (you!) We're taking a little hiatus but hope to be back better than ever sooner than later! In the meantime, Saturdays will have some wonderful alternative programming and headliners, including this weekend the amazing Laurie Kilmartin doing a long set! See our full calendar here →  Darlin's, Does anyone else in Los Angeles live in a place without A/C? We salute you in these most sweaty of days, when the late afternoon hours become unbearable, laundry is a constant, and run of the mill doom scrolling becomes.... wetter. Look, just trying to connect with you here. If you DO have A/C and have no empathy, let's try connect on something else. Like, I don't know, how about SPORTS! The Olympics are coming up in Paris and NBA Summer League has been off the chain. Right?!  At this point we gotta be connected, right? Still no? Ok, how about this: On my way home from the theater last week I was at a light waiting to make a left hand turn onto Temple off of Rampart (hoping this specificity adds credibility and connectability). The left hand turn arrow there is notoriously short and the arrow becomes red after that so if you don't make it you gotta wait a whole new cycle and who has the time for that?! There were three cars in front of me, which bodes well for making the light. That is if everyone is ready to go. But I clocked that the car in front of me had a full car length and a half between them and the car in front of them (unacceptable!) which told me that this person did not have their head in the game. As we like to say here at Dynasty when it comes to waiting at stoplights, "FILL THE GAP!" When the arrow turned green the car not only didn't fill the gap, it didn't move at all for a good 7 seconds. Which elicited a light tap on my horn (which truly is only used sparingly for situations like this! We are not a serial honker, promise!) and then of course, we know what happens next: This non-gap filling motherflarper made the light, but I was left having to wait there for the next full cycle. I refuse to play the victim card as I know we're all humans just trying to make sense of this existence, and who knows what anyone is going through at any given point that affects their focus and this didn't appear to be a personal attack. That said, if YOU think that we are victims of poor drivers or if you think that you are a bad driver and want to apologize, we're here for it. Upcoming Shows Shop Dynasty  Photo Recap: Beverly Hills  Back in the '80s, when Michael Ausiello was a closeted gay teen living in small-town New Jersey, he penned 517 episodes of a daytime soap opera titled "Beverly Hills." Miraculously, he saved every handwritten script. Now, four decades later, some of the biggest names in comedy came together to perform a 60-minute reading of a self-contained story arc that found six of "Beverly Hills'" most popular characters traveling overseas for a life-or-death adventure. Although some of Teenage Michael’s atrocious spelling was cleaned up for this theatrical experience, the scenes were performed exactly as they were written nearly 40 years ago— for better or worse.
