A Loving Quaraspondence

Pandemic Survival Discoveries + A Dynasty Livestream!

lion_herder_4.gif

Darlings,

How nice it is to sit and write to you! We hope it’s nice to receive, and that you’re in a good happy space and that you’re healthy and have been using your at home time to go on *an epic inward journey of self-discovery* and that you’ve discovered at least three new things to love and or to love about yourself, or just discovered something interesting! If you haven’t yet, we CHALLENGE you!

Some examples from our own lives:

Turns out, Vanessa loves to paint with watercolors! And she’s also very bad at it, with no real interest in the discipline it would take to improve. But she’s so bad that the very fact that she still loves it despite her lack of skill is actually loveable! Good news: you can thoroughly, shamelessly enjoy things you’re rotten at! Another discovery is that lavender, while seemingly hearty, is actually kind of tricky to care for. Is it drooping because it’s over watered? Drooping because it’s thirsty? A quick google ('net search) provides the horrible news that: both are equally possible. Will she kill it with thirst or kill it by drowning? Or will they get to know each other and somehow both learn some important lessons in the process? That the lavender, bought to soothe her nerves is bringing on near hourly waves of panic in Vanessa is the ultimate flarpin’ ironyWill Vanessa’s lavender survive?  While this isn’t the first time Vanessa has become neurotically involved with one of her house plants, it IS the most intense. Please send good vibes to Lavidia*.  *The ailing plant.

Jamie meanwhile has stayed incredibly busy playing with sculpting clay and miniature animals and babies. He made a little video about a baby climbing a mountain (to save humanity obv). THEN, shortly after that, he was reading an article on how to love himself (just to brush up, definitely no major issues coming to light in self isolation) and the article randomly asserted that “asking a person who only knows conditional love to give you unconditional love is like… expecting a baby to climb a mountain.” He’s still meditating on the significance of that, but let’s be clear, it’s significant as flarpin’ flarp. He also made the time to discover that he surprisingly enjoyed Danny Boyle’s romantic comedy Yesterday, despite never wanting to see it pre-pandemic. Don’t get him wrong, there are some major plot holes and glaring missed opportunities with the premise, but if you’re looking for a lighthearted high concept romp to connect to some deep feelings while eating handfuls of walnuts and raisins (which we can all agree is the official healthy snack of quarantine 2020), this is one of 600 currently available on 158 streaming platforms.  Perhaps most importantly, he also figured out that the name “boxer shorts” is derived from shorts worn by actual boxers which felt absolutely revelatory until he told some “friends” about it in his 38th Zoom chat of the day, and was met with blank nods as they waited for what the big news was. “Fuck ‘em!” he said as he muted himself, between walnut raisin swallows. To top that off, Jamie’s doorbell rang yesterday and it was his neighbor (not the cokehead with 18 pack abs - the one in the apt on the other side. You know, the crankhead with an 18 pack of Cuckoo), who scolded him for throwing away the mail he received from the US Census Bureau. As much as Jamie is craving human connection right now, he didn’t ask for that interaction in his life. But it happened, and now it’s for all of us to contemplate.

We BOTH discovered (along with the rest of the world) that Netflix docu-series Tiger King is an unbelievable carnival of narcissism, with impossibly bizarre humans using big cats as bait to create cult followings and con vulnerable people into indentured servitude, sexy-zoo style. In other words: !  We hope the afterlife of the main cast consists of an eternity of revenge-style reckonings with big cats who are finally free to do as they wish.  (This feels like too mean of a thing to waste our time and wishes on, and like completely un-Dynasty, so maybe strike that from the record. But we DO wish that humans were kinder to animals or left them all together alone.) **SPOILERS AHEAD** A few other takeaways: floral crowns are cancelled, contracts of marriage should not be entered under duress or the influence of meth, for godsakes never trust a man named Bhagavan, breast implants should only be pursued for personal reasons; not to accrue sick days, getting your arm torn off is the ultimate way to accrue sick days AND zoo cred in big cat world so flarpin’ milk that, and if you’re a Walmart guns-section floor manager and a wildly unstable man asks you to manage his campaign… SAY NO. Even if campaign management is your dream, THIS IS THE WRONG CAMPAIGN. CHOOSE ANOTHER ADVENTURE. LEAVE OKLAHOMA, LEAVE THE AMMO SECTION OF WALMART AND FIND YOUR PEOPLE, JOSHUA. **END OF SPOILERS**

Another mutual discovery: we’re feeling the true gravity of this time IN WAVES. We’re cycling through complicated emotions constantly; mourning for the world, feeling flashes of our own small every-day grief, frustration, numbness and denial, but still, gratefully, finding joy in connecting with others and of course the therapy of laughter.  When we put on shows at the theater (which was somehow only three weeks and a lifetime ago) we took the responsibility and privilege of having people in our space and on the stage very seriously. And we’re very excited to be able to do that again for all of you, because we now have even more clarity on the importance of human connection, a reinvigorated excitement to create beautiful experiences, and heaps of gratitude for everything that’s happened in our lives to-date.

Until we can open our doors to you again, know that our hearts (AWWW!!!) remain open and welcoming and are just getting mushier all the time. Lots more below (including so many great new graphics from our graphics man Dan), so keep reading, follow us on Instagram, and we truly love you all!

Our First Pandemic

important2.png

Dearest Darlings-

Like so many other places, we have decided to close our doors for public shows until further notice

But we will persevere!

AND SO WILL YOU! Please take care of yourself and your loved ones, make those difficult calls in the name of safety and health knowing that it’s truly for the good of humanity, and remember that at some point in the not-so-distant future we’ll all be looking around, hugging each other, and impressed that we were able to flarpin’ overcome.

As for us? As it is our foremost mission to entertain, enchant and inspire, we're actively looking for new ways to achieve those goals in a time where it is arguably needed more than ever. Oh, and also we’re gonna desperately try to STAY AFLOAT (given that we’re a business that, to this point, has been based on the gathering of humans).

If you’re a fan of what we do and would like to help us and are in a position to (please don’t stretch yourself!) we’d really, really appreciate your support. We want to weather this and we also truly want to keep making magical things for our amazing community because it’s our whole flarpin’ life’s purpose and that’s not even hyperbole. Oh, how we WISH our life’s purpose was running Amazon! Or being the worst president ever! Or that we were Mr. Paul Purell and Ms. Linda Lysol!

BUT WE’RE #DYNASTY ‘TIL WE #DY! (HOPEFULLY IN 80+ YEARS!)

Ways you can support Dynasty during this pandemic:

  • Get a ticket (as many as you wish!) to support Dynasty. This ticket will gain you first ACCESS to updates on li
ve streams, podcasts, and the other creative projects we’ll undertake as we navigate this shift. Your ticket purchase will help us survive this time and keep us ready for a quick rebound! You can look forward to these things starting to pop up as early as next week!

  • Shop in our online souvenir shoppe! Get a Dynast-Tee or enamel pin to wear around the living room. Or grab a Dynasty gift card! We’ll open again at some point, and hey! You can use your gift card then!

  • Tune in! Watch as we spread our production company wings (without spreading germs!) and start… producing things! Your spirit, feedback, likes, and shares will let us know what to make more of (and what to put out of its misery.)

  • Be patient and calm. We’re all experiencing this for the first time. Let’s all make a DynastyBuddyPact™ to be kind and understanding.

  • Pop Your Own DynaPop (PYODP) Will it be the same? Plainly put: no. Will it still be corn? Sure. And that’s something.

More to come on new creative developments, but in the meantime be safe, be healthy, find joy, and be kind to one another.

*|MC:SUBJECT|*

Ohhhh darlings-

Let’s come right out and say it: this is a weiiiiird flarpin’ chapter we’re all trucking through. How are you coping with the crazed paranoia sweeping this little ol’ planet? If you’re taking the time to read/skim this newsie, first of all, “hey thanks!” Second of all, you’re doing a great job! We’re glad you’re still doing normal The Grand Sanitizerstuff because there are a great deal of things that are still normal. In fact, take a moment to look around you and realize how okay and functional (or at least normally dysfunctional)  things still are. <<Take a few deep breaths.>> You got this! We got this! We love you! We truly hope you are all  safe, healthy, and making choices that allow you to feel secure while still enjoying your life. Here at the theater, we’re well aware of the intense vibrations of the time, and we’re taking extra care regarding all cleaning protocol (which, to be clear, has always been a very high priority here because we want aim to enchant, and enchantment needs to SPARKLE baby!) and also have created a NEW position (because sooooomeone has to bolster this economy!) entitled Grand Sanitizer, who walks the line in Safety Dress dispensing hand sanitizer to the audience before they enter the building. In short, we’re taking this very seriously but we remain committed to “the art of the experience.” (Also the title of an e-book we’re working on. The “e” is a triple threat in this case: it stands for “enchantment, experience, and electronic. PRETTY FLARPIN’ COOL, RIGHT?!)

WHAT ELSE?

Well,  Mr. SANDMAN brought us a dream in the form of shows (honestly, our #1 top favorite dreamform™). Adam Sandler lives up to his hype, and his performances were a reminder of why #Sandlergate  happened in the first place; he’s so damn good at what he does that a person would rightfully be ENRAGED to miss an opportunity to see him. Sunday night ROB SCHNEIDER was a surprise guest to the delight of everyone. The show was amazing and chock full of new material and songs…. HOW  DOES  HE DO IT?!

We’ve got a great week at the theater (see below for show listings, ticket links, et cetera) but right now we’d love to take a moment to give a little shout out to our little show baby, Dynasty Tonight. Dynasty Tonight!! is a show we produce with a line-up we hand pick, and ooooh the crops are good this time of year! We’ve got AARON CHEN, MATHEW BROUSSARD, JOEL KIM BOOSTER, JON DALY and more TBA! Heyyy line-up, you cute! So come on down to Dynasty and let us wipe your cares away with laughter and Lysol™. Share a human experience, because ain’t that what bein’ a human is all about?

In other news, we, VanJam (VANessa and JAMie), have officially started production on our  podcast (i.e. microphones are plugged in! We have talked into them!) and we are thrilled. We can’t wait to share The Dynasty Typecast with you and invite you even further into the magical, mystical, cornfueled world of enchantertainment™. Launch date to be announced soon. In the meantime, you may marvel at the podcast graphic design by our in-house graphic design marvel maker, Daniel Fazio

We sure do love you lots!

Jamie & Vanessa

Whitmer Thomas! Mary Beth Barone! Byron Bowers! and more!

*|MC:SUBJECT|*

Darlings! Come out come out wherever you are!

It’s the last newsie of February, and like the month, we’ll keep this newsletter weird and of do-able length.

*DY-LITES* from LAST WEEK:

  1. Fantasy BFF Zone: Sarah Squirm and Meg Stalter’s show was so good, so exciting, so silly, and so fueled with happy mania it made the audience turn to each other and say “I’ll have what they’re having.” And then the audience was like: “Oh my gosh we’re talking in unison!” “We’re still doing it” “Stop!” “No you stop!” “Ok this is getting FREAKY!” “Cinnamon Toast Brunch!?” “What the fuck is happening?!” “Jinx!”

  2. Technical Terrificulties: Zoë Coombs-Marr’s show was A++ and incorporated some of the most creative tech we’ve had at the theater yet INCLUDING (but not limited to) a well managed drone, another exciting appearance by a convulsing windsock man AND an audience hat-cam live streaming to the stage

  3. Slice o’ Heav’n: Saturday’s Dynasty Tonight! was an epic pageant of talent and also a parade of our staff! Pizza was consumed! Headliners shone! Magic astounded! Our carpet had to be moved to accommodate the fake severing of a fake conjoined twin so the fake blood could really drip on the stage.

THIS WEEK (WITH A FEW LAZY BEE PUNS FOR NO REASON):
  1. D-HIVE: Beyonce has her Bey Hive, and we have our D-Hive!  Every month the D-Hive gets together for GO! DAY.  What is GO! DAY? Basically we invite people that inspire us creatively to come inspire us and our audience, and it’s always **FREE**!  2pm this Sunday and queen bees JAMIE and VANESSA will be joined by GO! DAY MVBee  BRENT FORRESTER, painter/performer TAYLOR BOS and more! Potentially... WAY MORE.
  2. Oh YAS, HONEY!: Is what we say to tomorrow being a Workjuice Wednesday! And THURSDAY being an Everything’s Great! We always love that show (hope you’re blushing, Nick n’ Addie n’ Demi!) 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️
  3. #BUZZWORTHY:  The Fast and the Furious Musical Parody is bringing it’s crew back to Dynasty THIS Saturday!
  4. OOH THAT STINGS: Quick shoutout to musical artist Sting! He’s been flying under the radar of late, but what a discography, and boy did he revolutionize #beingaroundcandles!

Wand Talk

We started our day by giving ourselves a little tarot card reading in our new podcast studio “The Enchanted Enclave.” We do that now. (Vanessa does the reading, Jamie voraciously takes it all in.)  One of the cards was a 9 of Wands. On that card, a single wand is askew, but the others are all firmly planted in the ground. Why is that significant? Great question!

Our interpretation: Sometimes we focus on the wand in our life that’s messed up, and in doing so we do ourselves the huge disservice of letting that one slightly-off thing receive all of our energy. When we do that, we forget that we are surrounded by a bunch of wands that are doing GREAT and full of magic! And YES- it’s difficult not to get distracted by that one wonky wand - to not just try to stick it in line with all the other wands. But that is stealing our energy from the beautiful wands that need us to make their magic.

Is there a wand in your life that is getting too much of your attention?

Let us know in the comments section below.

This week, we’ve got some fun things to share! You'll never believe number 9!

*|MC:SUBJECT|*

Darlings,

First, we gotta know... HOW WAS YOUR PRESIDENTS' DAY!?!  If you're anything like us you're still knee-deep in wrapping paper n' stuffed from the traditional Prezzy Puddin’ Broonch! We're gonna ask you to put your new presidential toys away for just a moment to read the newsie. We’re trying a new concept called “BREVITY” this week, but don’t worry, we’ll put our trademark™ spin on it by spelling it breviDY™ and shouting out our on again off again sponsors DynaPop™ and Lindt Premium Chocolate. Let’s see if we like it, and you see if you like it too!

We’ll start by handing over our **ALL NEW SHOW REVIEW SECTION** to LA theater review staples Siggy and Pauly Blaumfield who we had the pleasure of meeting this past week!

NOTE FROM THE BLAUMFIELDS: Hello! Siggy here, sitting beside Mr. Blaumfield (or “Mr. B” as our son’s friends call him lol), Pauly. We are in our livingroom/den (this is the fight that might break up our marriage HA).  We are very excited to be writing the Dyna-E-Blaster. We write a regular column “A Words On Play” in the popular LA Theater publication, Stages Of Life. We have never written an E-Blaster. Let’s see how this goes. Also, for the record, Dynasty Computer at The Hayward is very cute and Mr. B loved putting M&Ms on his popcorn. =) I haven’t seen him so happy since we saw “Pippin” at the “Mark Taper Forum” on our umpteenth anniversary. Paul is often dictating, so I have the tricky dual role of transcriber and co-writer. I just read Paul the part about the “umpteenth” anniversary and Paul is laughing. =)  (smiling face made of punctuation)

SHOW REVIEW #1 FOR SANDRA BERNHARD
byline: SIGGY & PAUL BLAUMFIELD

Me and Mr. B  had the great pleasure of attending the Sandra Bernhard cabaret show at Dynasty Computer at The Hayfield on Thursday. Paul remarked, as he often does, about what a long street Wilshire is with it’s many identities. It’s true, it’s a very long street and goes through a lot of neighborhoods. When we arrived, we noted that parking was doable.  It was our first trip to this venue. It was cute and the bathrooms were CLEAN and “non-gendered” which is obviously wonderful, especially for Paul because he didn’t “blow it” by going into the wrong designation, something he’s done more than once at #thepantages because the doors are distracting there. New paragraph. We love Sandy but haven’t seen her live in a while, so we were overjoyed and our moods very "up" unlike when we go to see and “cover” more  dramatic theater. We wore our flashiest blazers hoping the lady of the hour (Sandra Bernhard) would interact with us during the show, as we love when that happens and we, the audience, get to feel like we are also the talent. She did not, but she did wink at our section and said “I love you” in a general way that managed to feel intimate. That’s Sandy for you. Irreverent, INTELLIGENT, magnetic, appealing. Very New York. Very chic. We stayed for the meet and greet. We got a great photo (Mr B’s eyes look better closed anyway HA)  She was so nice. Also  fun, Mimi (Mariah Carrey) and Sandy have made peace. Anything is possible!  As we always sign off on our column: ~LIVE, LOVE AND…LEAVE THE DRAMA ON THE STAGE =) SIGGY & PAUL

SHOW REVIEW #2  FOR DYNASTYLAND
byline SIGGY & PAUL BLAUMFIELD

PAUL TAKES THE KEYBOARD FOR THIS ONE. I finished my lunch.
My SWEETHEART Siggy and I had the pleasure of attending Dynasty’s Valentine’s #dynastyland event. Full disclosure we were GIVEN these tickets in exchange for this REVIEW, but will still keep our INTEGRITY. Our major takeaway? Dynastyland (!!! is at  the theater, don’t put DYNASTYLAND in your MapQuest!!! Put DYNASTY TYPER  in your MapQuest) is on the very LONG Wilshire Boulevard in LOS ANGELES. It is a land of wonder; full of party people HUNGRY to sing, dance, Dyngo (this is bingo) eat popcorn and more.  Each area of the theater had something going on and there was truly something for everyone! I didn't trip. I was partial to the #puzzletable where I made some new friends. One of them had an EARRING in their NOSE! Not something you’d usually see at #thepantages, but that’s part of the charm of this place: really funky people making strange choices.  If it wasn’t something in someone’s nose, it was a nose on someone else’s something! I’m talking about the dancefloor of course, which was jam packed with partygoers (lovers and loners) shaking their #butts to popular contemporary tunes spun by DJ Dax. At one point my #butt knocked into the #butt of a man dressed as a giant bird!  I hope the bathrooms are also non-SPECIED! Ha! That night I fell in love again: with theater, with Dynasty, with Siggy. My rock. Let’s just hope she never puts an EARRING in her NOSE! (Good for others but seems like it might get in the way when we’re smooching. YES, WE STILL SMOOCH which we’ll do on our rescheduled Valentine’s Day tradition of #steak.) ~LIVE, LOVE AND…LEAVE THE DRAMA ON THE STAGE;) SIGGY & PAUL

Thank you for this opportunity,
(live, laugh)  LOVE
SIGGY & PAUL

Eyes weren’t rolled! It was actually a really moving experience, and we can’t wait to do more. And we got pics to prove it!
  • YOUR WEEKLY WOW: FRIDAY: basically, HANNAH GADSBY and a DRONE and hours of drone training all play a part in ZOË COOMBS MARR’s Friday show, Bossy Bottom. Allow US to be a bossy bottom for a moment: “Get your tickets!”
  •  This Saturday we’re excited to host A WEIRD AND INSANE AFTERNOON WITH NATHAN RABIN. It is a celebration of his book release “The World Accordion To Al” which is a comprehensive look at every single one of Weird Al’s songs! This is a particularly exciting event for us to host because A) Jamie has been obsessed with Weird Al his entire life and is convinced that someday he will grace our stage and b) Jamie became friends with Nathan through The Long Shot Podcast after years of reading his work, and C) Nathan was a big proponent of the opening of Dynasty. We’re not sure what to expect, but we know it’s going to be fun as flarpin’ hell!

  • LINDT™ TRAP  This SATURDAY night at 9pm come on by Dynasty Tonight for a jam-packed VanJam approved  line-up!

    • DEMETRI MARTIN (Comedy!)
    • BENITO SKINNER (Comedy!)

    • LUKE NULL (Comedy!)
    • TAYLOR TOMLINSON (Comedy!)
    • TAYLOR HUGHES (Magic! Comedy!)
We're going to be   slicing the night during intermission so come, laugh, munch, repeat.  We are contractually obligated to say, "Pizza pairs great with Lindt! What's your Lindt Story?"

BRAND, BERNHARD, BARONE! + VALENTINES FOR LOVERS & LONERS!

*|MC:SUBJECT|*
Esteemed members of the D’Academy,

We hope this newsletter finds you still basking in the golden after-glow of The Academy Awards. Did you attend a party? Did you win your Oscar pool? Did you have themed  snacks and spirited conversation? We did all of those things at our Dynasty viewing party last night, so if you did them too we could have a great conversation. But heck, even if you did different things, did nothing at all, or have great disdain for awards shows, we could have a lovely conversation, because sometimes the greatest conversations are not those between like-minded individuals, they are the conversations full or friction and wild energy. If you hate the Oscars, hate popcorn, and even *GASP* hate Dynasty Typewriter and are hate-reading our newsletter, we think of you not as an enemy, but as a potential meet-cute opportunity! Like MC Scat Kat Dynasty (the ORIGINAL MC Skat Kat FYI) always said (RIP), “Opposites attract. But, it is the intention put into the pairing that will ultimately determine the long-term viability of the relationship. ” He was always a rascal like that!

Anyway, we’re coming off of a fun and varied week at Dynasty and looking forward to more of the same (“same” in this instance meaning same curated variation, not like, same-same) this week. Highlights of the last week include: an engrossing conversation on passion & finance from ADAM DAVIDSON and ADAM MCKAY, two non-ironic uses of singing bowls (Go!Day and Greg BarrisDeep Healing), getting to know our THEATER LIGHTS more intimately and creating four amazing new lightscapes which were introduced to our audience at Saturday’s Dynasty Tonight by Clamzys (our seashell footlights) and Ruggy (our rug.) If you can’t wrap your noggin around that then hunnney, you are reading the wrong newsletter! New lightscapes include: Aquatown: Real Life, Underwater. Sedona Cave: Sunset. The Powder Room. And Sadboy & Happyguy: A Lightstory. Last week, we wrote you as but humble theater proprietors. Today, we write you as SEASONED LIGHTING DESIGNERS. What an EXPECTED thrill. There will be more. A LOT more.

Yesterday was a regular ding-dang Dynasty Darling hang-out day at the theater and we’re still flarpin’ flying high from it! The Go!Day G’Oscars were a huge success, POPPY themself handing out Linnys (Lindt-awards) to some of our favorite folks. And then our friend and favorite DAVE HOLMES came over and hosted our live stream party! We all grew as people for and as really came together as a family during the Eminem performance.

And now, let’s talk about this week! TONIGHT we have MARONZIO VANCE (Last Comic Standing, Lopez) at 8pm. He’s so charming. He’s so loveable! He’s so… Maronzio. TOMORROW NIGHT, we’ve got a JUST ANNOUNCED return of RUSSELL BRAND at 6pm. Grab your tickets and enjoy an intimate and engrossing performance with one of the quickest-thinking thinkers we’ve seen.  At 8pm we’re so excited for the first (of many!) live Dollop podcasts with hosts DAVE ANTHONY and GARETH REYNOLDS and their very special guest KAREN KILGARIFF. We’d go on and on about how great it’s going to be and how you need to get tickets, but alas and hurray, it’s SOLD OUT. Speaking of upcoming sold out shows we don’t want to hype too much and make you feel sad about, on WEDNESDAY we’ve got MARY BETH BARONE returning with Drag His Ass with a top shelf lineup of ass-draggers including BENITO SKINNER, SARAH SQUIRM, JARED GOLDSTEIN, ALI MACOFSKY and more and then on THURSDAY SANDRA BERNHARD will be coming in! #iconstatus #legend.

FRIDAY is Valentines Day and don’t worry last-minute lovers, galentines gaggles, lovely loners and beyond: there’s room, love and DynaPop! Enough to go around at DYNASTYLAND! “You won’t be sorry when you soiree (with us)!” - Jamie and Vanessa. We’ll have dancing, a cash bar, live comedy, a puzzle hideaway, photo opportunities and more. And by MORE we definitely mean VanJam (us) reading your tarot cards in our new Enchanted Enclave!

SATURDAY night we’re celebrating the 2 year anniversary of Let’s Go Atsuko! And we’re still in the honeymoon phase, honey! This very special edition of ATSUKO OKATSUKA’s wonderful woke Japanese gameshow will be featuring: KULAP VILAYSACK! RHEA BUTCHER! JIMMY PARDO! NAOMI EKPERIGIN and more. So come on and let’s go!

SUNDAY: Maybe you’ve seen them on Youtube (millions have!). Maybe you saw them on NBC’s Bring The Funny (where they were finalists!). DEFINITELY you can see them at Dynasty if you get tickets like, now! It’s the singing-comedy trio KEITH HABERSBERGER, ALEX LEWIS, & HUGHIE STONE FISH) LEWBERGER!  We can’t help but notice that Hughie Stone Fish’s name seems to be left out of the LEWBERGER name mashup, but if the group is  cool with it, so are we.  Come see,  hear, laugh, love. Then get the previous sentence printed in a vinyl script on a decal and place that decal somewhere helpful in your home. Look at that, we just became SEASONED INTERIOR DESIGNERS. We’re exhausted.

Russell Stauffers Microwavable Chocolate Dinners,

VANJAM

Dynasty Dygest: Feb 3rd

PROOPS TONIGHT! ADAM MCKAY! OSCARS WATCH PARTY! GO! DAY! What color carpet do you like?

*|MC:SUBJECT|*
Dynasty Darlings,

It’s February! And a LEAP year February at that! Ok, let’s talk about it. February has a LOT going both for Dynasty's Market Research Teamand against it. The weird extra R, the varying length, the housing of Valentine’s day which you either love or love to hate (or are ambivalent towards, but intensive #marketresearch has revealed that hyperbole is more fun in a newsletter than nuanced truths, and we paid a LOT for our market research team, so we listen!) February here at Dynasty is like the perfect box of truffles for our  Darlings, curated by someone who really knows your impeccable taste and adorable complexities. See our monthly calendar below and get all twitterpated and goo-goo eyed.

Last week, we bid farewell to Jan(uary) and she went out with a shish-bang-boom! It was thrilling to host a conversation between Neal Katyal and Rob Reiner and we feel like it definitely made us smarter, so watch out cocktail parties -- our small talk game just got refined (we’ll still burp on command if you insist, but now Russell Brandwith more eye contact.) Mark Normand delivered two amazing special tapings to two sold-out crowds, WorkJuice imrprov'ed so damn hard, Joe Machi was a delight, Russell Brand expanded our consciousnesses’ (again: watch out cocktail parties! again: we’ll still burp on command, but now with more presence), Everything’s Great was great n’ everything! Saturday we started February with a Dynasty Tonight that was a flarpin’ love-heart delight with a line-up of our favorite folks. Sunday took a break from being the Lord’s day and became SHAKIRA and J. LO’s day. Whatever virgin’s blood they’re drinking, pour us a DOUBLE honey! But perhaps last week’s most notable moment: while dancing to a vocalized slow version of “Get Ready for This” by 2 Unlimited in the alley behind the theater (while Russell Brand was on stage), Jamie and Vanessa stumbled upon a magical space between our building and our neighbors that could become an enchanting new Dynastyland attraction. You’ll need to attend our Valentine’s Day party to find out!

And now, to the dismay of Garfield empaths everywhere, it’s Monday! But it’s a delight for us because TONIGHT we’ve got the very humble GREG PROOPS with his Smartest  Man In The World podcast at 8pm! And who needs a bouquet of roses for Valentine’s when you could have a REAL Rose TOMORROW? It’s ROSEBUD BAKER at 8pm. She’s a comic, a writer, an actor, and  the Village Voice named her the Very Best of Just For Laughs New Faces, so come see her face for yourself. WEDNESDAY we have another Live Talk, this one is double-Adam style. ADAM DAVIDSON (NPR’s Planet Money, Peabody winner) discussing his book The Passion Economy with ADAM MCKAY (VICE, SNL). FRIDAY we’re so excited for Outtake-O-Rama, a live show comprised of infamous celebrity outtakes featuring the legendary stars of FUTURAMA… BILLY WEST! JOHN DIMAGGIO! And MAURICE LA MARCHE! Plus head writer DAVID X. COHEN! Experience the most horrifically entertaining treasures ever mistakenly put down on tape by William Shatner, Richard Nixon, and many more. Plus the latest from Trump Brannigan! This will be followed by ANOTHER delightful collection of monster scenes, this one more literal. It’s Friday Night Frights & Slashback Video presenting a Werewolf Celebration, they’ve put together a wolfy preshow and it will be followed by a werewolf movie that has never had a theatrical release… howl about that! SATURDAY means it’s Dynasty Tonight! Night! We can’t wait! We’re so excited about this lineup, probably because we picked it out ourselves. We’ve got DEMI ADEJUYIGBE! JACKIE TOHN! LAURIE KILMARTIN! MARY LYNN RAJSKUB and more, sweet darlings. Join us!! And stay all night because at 10pm it’s GREG BARRIS’ DEEP HEALING - we’re just going to put his description of the event here because it’s really good and evocative and exciting: Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. Be psychically prepared for movement & vulnerability. Allow yourself to open and release. Bring your most healing gifts in the form of a song, a sound or powerful healing thought. With RORY SCOVEL and musical guests KENRIC MCDOWELL and GRIFFIN MOLLY.

Then we’ve got a solid-gold SUNDAY featuring a double dose of Dynasty dates! At 2pm it’s a very Oscars-ish GO! DAY (The G’Oscars!). GO! DAY is our free monthly dose of enchantertainment™ hosted by JAMIE and VANESSA and featuring some of our favorite artists, entrepreneurs, and sources of inspiration. Join us and get a peek behind the curtain of the theater,  and a peek behind the curtain of…  your own limitations. GO! DAY:  BE LIMITLESS (slogan borrowed from our upcoming GO! DAY sports drink ad campaign.) This month will feature faves BARRY & JASON, BRENT FORRESTER, RACHEL BRODEUR and RITA OLIVIERA and the lovely JEANIE BERGEN. Then at 4:30, we’re metaphorically roll out the red carpet (unless anyone has any literal red carpet we can use!) for an Oscar’s watch party! We’ll have ballots, pizza, and a cash bar. You should: attend! Get all dressed up (if you want to! No presh!) Bring a themed potluck item (again, if you want to! No presh!) and get ready to watch HISTORY BE MADE. Or at least watch the awards show. Our night’s very dapper host will be Hollywood’s own DAVE HOLMES. We can’t wait to watch with you!

Sweet love,

VanJam

ALLADIN TALK! GREG PROOPS! THE RETURN OF WORJKUICE! JOE MACHI! A LOT MORE!

*|MC:SUBJECT|*
Darlings!

EXTRY EXTRY! THIS JUST IN!!!!! Corn-Fed Owners of Quaint Venue SHOCK WORLD by Joining Gynmasium! (Surely this is the content you came for!?) We figured, if we want to take this li’l Hollywood-ish theater to the next level, it’ll take some #rippedbods. So we got gym memberships with stars in our eyes, short-shorts in our gym bags, and aspirational bathing suits in our online carts! Cut to: The next day. JAMIE awkwardly jumps off the stage to impress the audience. It looks SO cool until he lands on his foot funny and is now out of commission for a week. Cut to, the NEXT day: Vanessa bends at waist to put large-scale baby down. It looks SO maternal until she slips a disc (skeletal, not frisbee!) and will be out of commission for even longer. They may or may not  be writing  this newsletter in a reclined position while riding a magic carpet woven by a prescription narcotic. Where will THIS journey take us, sweet darlings? Re: Magic carpets, can someone tell me why they remade Aladdin? Such a true and deep disappointment. Will Smith has many merits but should never be held up comedically in such close proximity to Robin Williams... it’s just not a good look. Will DOES look great by Jada though, superficially speaking. Their height difference is…  exhilarating. But, make no mistake, though Jada be but little she is powerful! She’s making BIZZNASSS calls from her booster seat at the table (inside joke for all Table Talk fans!!!!) honey! (Jamie here. FYI all that Aladdin talk was Vanessa. I don’t really have a horse in that race. Never saw the original (Vanessa here: THIS IS WHY YOU DON’T HAVE A HORSE IN THE RACE! IF YOU DIDN’T SEE THE ORIGINAL, THE RANT WASN’T FOR YOU! Keep your horses in their own paddock. That  you even dare to weigh in is frankly insulting and an example of white male entitlement at it’s finest. But please, GOOOO ONNNNNN) and what I saw of the remake was like, not mindblowing but if you paid for a fun genie movie with Will Smith, it delivered. Ok, Just saw that I was rudely parenthe-rupted - ok, I don’t have a horse in the race. BUT I HAVE A HORSE. IT’S JUST NOT IN RACING SHAPE RIGHT NOW. IT’S WHY I JOINED THE GYM. (Vanessa here: Jamie this was never about your shape. Your shape is perfect. And you know what? You’re right. If you paid for a genie movie with WIll Smith it DID deliver. What I’m lamenting is a needless remake of a movie that centered around a role performed by a man I really loved and respected, a master comic and improvisor. I think a more inclusive and properly cast Aladdin is a great concept as a pitch, but watching the resulting product left me feeling really… down. No one wins in this. I’m sorry I started it, and I’d be honored to finish it.) Jamie, still here, I do have body issues, but I appreciate the reminder that all of our bodies are inherently perfect. What I lack in build, I make up for in passion. In a way, to keep in the Aladdin theme, we’re all like genies, and every choice we make is a wish, and when we are born we get a lifetime of wishes, not just three. And there are three sides to a triangle, and our logo is a triangle, so this whole thing organically came full… circle. Can I have some of your Narcode now? (Vanessa passes bottle of Super Strength ACME Narcode to Jamie.) We’ll let’s just end with agreement: The Jada/Will height difference is indeed…  exhilarating.

The last week at the theater? In a word: QUIRKALICIOUS! Yes, it was a wild week of varied programing. Seriously folks, where else can you see a Crossword show, a stand-up show, a music show from a beloved artist who a lot of people don’t even know does music, a very cool and experimental improvised music show by a group of impossibly cool people guaranteed to make you hipper by proximity (looking at you, Subtle Pride), a popular culture quiz show, a Brad Pitt clip marathon, a love letter to LA, an immersive tour through a crazy record collection, a special taping, AND a conversation between THE impeachment guy and THE Rob Reiner. Why, wouldn’t you think you’d have to go to upwards of 8 venues to see all those different shows? And spend upwards of 5 THOUSAND US Dollars? Nope! Just the one; your neighborhood Popcorn Restaurant. And THAT’S the Dynasty Difference™. We’re not a venue, we’re a PORTAL. Venues take you one place… portals open up possibilities. Portalbilities.

This week, the portal throbs on. TONIGHT  MARK NORMAND is in the house and has sold out BOTH of his shows. Way to go, Mark! WEDNESDAY we welcome back our pals from WorkJuice! When it comes to pals, we hate to name names, but here we gooooo: CRAIG CACKOWSKI, MARC EVAN JACKSON, HAL LUBLIN, ANNIE SAVAGE, PAUL F TOMPKINS, MARC GAGLIARDI and LI’L JANET VARNEY. With special guest: SHANNON WOODWARD! Come and be wooed by some of the best improvisors in the game… the big game. The game of LIFE. THURSDAY we welcome JOE MACHI for his hour. Joe’s got a great track record, a great voice, and deserves to have a great track suit. Not sure if he does, but Joe, if you’re reading this, treat yourself to some quality athleisurewear! You’re WORTH it.

FRIDAY it’s the one threesome where EVERYONE’s invited, Everything’s Great! Your hosts with the most; DEMI ADEJUYIGBE, ADDIE WEYRICH, and NICK KOCHER! You don’t need more reasons to come to this show, but too bad! They’re serving you one helluva lineup: ROBBY HOFFMAN! CHRIS FLEMMING! DAVID GBORIE! NITHYA RAMAN + HAYES DAVENPORT. Come see this show! Afterwards at 10pm it’s Wild, Wild Christian- SIMONE MCALONEN’s story of awkward teenage sexual awakening set at Christian summer camp… which happened to be built  on the 60,000 acre ranch in Central Oregon formerly home to the murderous sex cult from Wild, Wild Country. Really!

SATURDAY we LEAP into February (this February is leap year style February! So athletic! ) with a Dynasty Tonight! Could there be a better leap and landing place?  We think not. So land on this 8pm show with a hand picked lineup! This week is featuring: IAN HARVIE, BILLY WAYNE DAVIS and wayyyyy more, baby! Grab your tickets and #experiencebliss™  (we pitched that to Lindt but they passed in the form of ignoring us, so we’re keeping it for ourselves. That’s OUR #Lindtstory!)  MONDAY we have the distinct honor of hosting The Smartest Man In The World podcast (Proopcast) with none other than the VERY humble GREG PROOPS. Come! Laugh! Learn! Mingle with some of the sexiest folks the UNIVERSE has to offer.

Maybe next week we’ll be less injured and more ripped  (which SOUNDS like an injury but implies a strengthening),

Jamie  +  Vanessa

Dynasty is built on our dream to change the world, and we are grateful and humbled to begin that journey here in Los Angeles, a city full of dreamers/ makers/ achievers/ and inspirations. Kobe’s big dreams, tireless work ethic, will to succeed (and underrated sense of humor) will inspire us now more than ever. Human life is absurd, fleeting, and as significant as the energy and intent we pour into it. Grateful for humans who refuse to be limited and encourage others to break through self-doubt and excuses and empower them to be their most undeniable, unlimited selves. RIP Kobe, Gianna, John, Keri, Alyssa, Christina, Sarah, Payton, Ara, and love to all those affected by this tragedy. #8 #24
